Description:Performs ultrasonic diagnostic procedures.
Duties:(This may not include all of the duties assigned)
1. Performs requested exams in a manner that assures the interpreting physician that the appropriate exam has been performed and is complete and adequate.
2. Provides the physician with the clinical history appropriate to the exam being performed.
3. Explains procedures to assure cooperation and optimum test results.
4. Positions patients: Selects appropriate transducer.
5. Conducts scanning procedures using ultrasound equipment. Moves scanner over specified body area, and adjusts equipment to focus.
6. Makes hard copy images. Documents tests.
7. Develops film using automatic processing equipment. Assembles materials for radiologist.
8. Maintains ultrasound equipment. Orders and stocks all ultrasound supplies.
9. Prepares patients for physician, obtains vital signs, and assists during examination.
10. Maintains department records, reports and files.
11. Keeps work area clean.
12. Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
13. Participates in staff development and educational activities.
14. Maintains patient confidentiality.
15. Attends staff meetings as required.
16. Maintains strictest confidentiality.
17. Ongoing Customer Service Training.
18. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:Knowledge in OB/GYN studies and general ultrasound. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Skill in maintaining records and recording test results. Skill in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency situations. Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public. Ability to follow written protocols. Ability to communicate clearly.

Education: Equivalent of a high school diploma.

Experience: 2 years experience as a sonographer with at least one year of that experience in an OB/GYN setting.

Certification: Certification as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer.
