| Description: | Performs venipuncture and capillary puncture on patients, including children, and other laboratory duties as assigned. |
| Duties: | (This list may not include all of the duties assigned)
1. Performs phlebotomy services, specimen collection and handling.
2. Performs waived and moderate complexity testing with minimum supervision.
3. Identifies, labels, and processes specimens.
4. Conducts basic equipment maintenance.
5. Organizes and prioritizes work duties.
6. Maintains work area including appropriate record keeping, ordering and stocking of supplies, and adhering to safety rules and regulations.
7. Distributes reports to appropriate site, physician, etc.
8. Follows established laboratory policies and procedures.
9. Performs and participates in department quality assurance program procedures.
10. Demonstrates flexibility, cooperation and supports team goals. Demonstrates professional behavior.
11. Assists in care of patient prior to, during and after phlebotomy.
12. Instructs patients on urine collection procedures. Allocates urine specimens.
13. Disposes of contaminated material according to established policy and OSHA regulations.
14. Answers telephone, takes messages and provides routine laboratory information.
15. Maintains patient confidentiality.
16. Enhances professional growth and development through in-service meetings and educating programs.
17. Helps orient and train new laboratory staff as needed.
18. Educate patients when appropriate for home collection specimens.
19. Attends staff meetings as required.
20. Maintains strictest confidentiality.
21. Ongoing Customer Service Training.

| Qualifications: | 1. Knowledge of laboratory techniques to perform routine laboratory tests.
2. Knowledge of laboratory equipment and testing to perform quality control checks.
3. Skill in preparing written reports concerning the results of laboratory tests.
4. Knowledge of chemistry to understand and identify reactions involved in testing.
5. Skill in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency situations.
6. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
7. Ability to follow written protocols.
8. Ability to communicate clearly.
Education: Equivalent of a high school diploma.
Knowledge of chemistry, biology or related fields preferred.
Experience: 1-2 years in a medical field.
Certification: CPR required.
