Description:Reviews and processes clinic professional charge tickets according to Oregon Medical Group procedures and government regulatory standards.
Duties:(This may not include all of the duties assigned).
1. Applies coding principles consist with government regulatory standards, payor specific guidelines of the health plans and OMG policy.
2. Gathers, reviews, and processes clinic fee tickets for all clinics and outside office procedures.
3. Reviews charge tickets for accurate CPT coding including assignment of appropriate modifiers.
4. Reviews charges to ensure ICD-9 codes are coded to the highest level of specificity.
5. Matches ICD-9 to CPT code based upon documentation within medical record (if linkage not indicated by provider).
6. Assigns ICD-9 code based upon documentation within medical records (if not indicated by provider).
7. Enters office and hospital charges into practice management system.
8. Assists physicians and other clinic staff with ICD-9 and CPT coding questions.
9. Assists patients and billing office staff with coding questions related to billing issues.
10. May assist with coding activities within other clinics/departments
11. Maintains a current working knowledge of CPT and ICD-9 coding principles.
12. Maintains strictest confidentiality.
13. Ongoing Customer Service Training.
14. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:Knowledge of coding policies and procedures and reimbursement practices. Knowledge of clinic operating policies. Skill in using computer and 10 key calculator. Ability to examine documents for accuracy and completeness. Ability to prepare records in accordance with detailed instructions. Ability to work effectively with patients and co-workers. Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.

Education: Equivalent of a high school diploma.

Experience: 1-2 years of medical coding experience in an outpatient setting.
