Description:Facilitates the registration and enrollment of new patients.
Duties:(This list may not include all of the duties assigned):
1. Logs/tracks records received at the clinic and send out via logbook and computer.
2. Receives telephone calls and answer questions concerning medical record requests.
3. Works with physicians in resolving coding or scheduling issues and answering questions.
4. Assists in the billing of medical records.
5. Interviews new patients, establishing accounts, and verifying/changing patient demographics or insurance coverage in the computer.
6. Processes Worker’s Compensation claims.
7. Assists in coordination of the referral process at the clinic.
8. Enters referrals into the computer and review referrals for accuracy prior to physician review.
9. Assists in trouble-shooting issues regarding physician schedules with co-workers and supervisors.
10. Channels all incoming calls and routes calls to appropriate departments
11. Responds to emergency calls according to established procedures
12. Communicates general clinic information
13. Uses paging system according to procedure
14. Organizes and efficiently handles switchboard equipment
15. Basic secretarial support including opening and sorting mail
16. Maintains information in a confidential manner
17. Greets patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous and helpful manner.
18. Checks in patients, verifies and updates necessary information in the medical record.
19. Receives payments from patients and issues receipts.
20. Schedules appointments for patients.
21. Performs related work as required.
22. Answers phones.
23. Pulls charts.
Qualifications:1. Equivalent of a high school diploma.
2. Knowledge of scheduling required.
3. Completion of a course in medical records technology preferred.
4. 1-2 years of experience with medical coding practices and medical office experience.
5. Background in managed care desirable.
6. Skill in operating a computer, calculator and photocopy machine.
7. Knowledge of medical records systems.
8. Knowledge of coding policies and procedures, reimbursement practices.
