Description:Provides general laboratory support including filing and copying forms, answering phones, locating necessary results or other lab forms, performing audits to ensure lab results are available, monitors lab reports integrity, keeping track of data and assisting in lab quality assessments and reports management.
Duties:(This list may not include all of the duties assigned.)
1. Maintain strictest patient confidentiality.
2. Index and redeliver lab results, specialist reports and hospital records in patient charts in a timely manner.
3. Identify system and lab report issues and communicate issues to Lab Data Analyst and Lab Manager. Use available resources to troubleshoot.
4. Review Lab pending logs and troubleshoot.
5. Retrieves voice mail messages and requests or locates the necessary charts.
6. Perform and troubleshoot LIS/EMR/Reference labs, billing and other related systems audits.
7. Completes laboratory requisitions and other lab forms.
8. Schedules patient appointments with other clinics.
9. Answers telephone and gives routine information in accordance in accordance with established lab procedures as specimen collection, handling, storage, test available.
10. Attend required meetings and participate in committees as requested.
11. Must be organized and good at setting priorities.
12. Must be flexible and have good team skills. Demonstrate professional behavior.
13. Serve as back up relief for specimen processing.
14. Use AS400 for patient demographics, if needed, in order to ensure exact patient has been identified.
15. Follows established policies and procedures.
16. Collect data for routine reports, compile and trend in spreadsheet and disseminate to appropriate people.
17. Perform general office duties such as typing documents, copying, faxing, mailing distribute reports and record-keeping.
18. Perform filing and keep track of lab forms sent by the Lab Assistant.
19. Assist with departmental quality assurance procedures.
20. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Knowledge of common OSHA safety hazards and precautions to maintain a safe work environment.
2. Willing to work in back office environment with patient contact.
3. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff, physicians and patients.
4. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency and stressful situations.
5. Ability to read, understand and respond to detailed oral and written instructions.
6. Ability to communicate clearly in person and on the telephone.
7. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
8. Ability to file and maintain patient records, files, reports and other correspondence.
9. Ability to work quickly and with accuracy to support a high volume flow of tasks.
10. Ability to follow established policies and procedures.
11. Ability to establish priorities and coordinate work activities.
12. Ability to identify problems, analyze data and recommend solutions.
13. Good telephone and people skills.
14. Typing and computer skills.
15. Work with lab team to increase their skills and improve customer service.

17. High school diploma or equivalent.
18. Knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft and Excel applications.
19. General clerical experience and medial terminology preferred.
20. 1-2 years previous experience in lab setting preferred.
